There is a video activex object 2.07 on my desktop that is a phishing program passing as windows xp trying to get me to buy spycrush software that i don’t need. When I try to remove the program, it prompts me to reboot the system so I can’t get rid of the damn thing. I reported this to myspace where it infected me. I tried everything on msconfig and the damn thing wont go away! What must I do besides seeking a restore point???

I just got on my email for the first time today here on Yahoo and I have this phone I’m selling on Ebay and I got an email from an Ebayer and it said he was very interested in the phone…so I clicked on the repsond button and it took me to Ebay and asked me to enter my username and password…but I didn’t because Norton Ant-Virus popped up and said it was a Phishing website, so it blocked the website. My question is am I at risk now?? Should I change my password even though I didn’t give any information?? What should I do!!! HELP!!
I also just changed my password so will that help some too??

Ok, here goes, I have my doctors in geekology and I’m also fluent in geek. I was snooping around on myspace and went to look at a kid’s profile who wasn’t one of my friends but I knew him. He had a comment posted that looked like a video with a seatbelt across a girls t*ts. I clicked on it but it turned out that once you did, it opened a page that asked you to login to myspace. (Which I already was) But my Windows Vista phishing filter went to town so I pondered for a minute. Then I realized that it was an attempt to steal my password. So I purposely entered an incorrect password just to see what would happen. Sure enough, it worked as in it logged under a wrong password. I knew that info was transferred to some untrustworthy person. I’m always the good-doing person but there are some people’s passwords I want. Is there anyway I could get that?

Regarding this excerpt:

“Internet Explorer has certain features that may impact or help you to protect your privacy.”

From:
Microsoft Internet Explorer (Pre-Release Version 7.0) Privacy Statement
Updated: July 11, 2006

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/privacy/ieprivacy_pr7.mspx

Should you go to the page, please notice that the last sentence of the third paragraph under Phishing Filter states, “If you are concerned that an address string might contain personal or confidential information, you should not report the site.”

“Iffy” endorsements of their own products throughout MS help and support make me wonder if the use of such a feature might be a privacy/security/other concern in an of itself. So…

1. Would you run a business like that?
2. Do you use Phishing Filter?
3. Why/why not?

Note: Please don’t point out that this refers to a pre-release version document because POST RELEASE MS Support still refers/directs to it.

Thank You and Bless You!!

I just got an email from ebay asking me to check personal information for inaccuracies. I was suspicious but clicked on the link anyways. Luckily my email blocked the link saying something about phishing. But, I don’t know what phishing is all about and if I should forward the email to ebay or just delete it. Thanks!

Jandyo asked:

In the last 2 weeks, for no apparent reason, loads of phishing, scam and spam emails have been coming through. My yahoo spam filter dumps them into a bulk folder and any that do get through to my email client (Windows Mail) divert to a Spam folder and then get deleted. So no real problem, but why suddenly are we awash with sad bastards with nothing better to do than wanting to transfer 15 million dollars from Nigeria into my account for a commission, for example. And I seem to have lots of bank accounts I never knew I had that need my confirmation of details. Is anyone else suddenly getting bombarded with these useless emails and who believes this stuff anyway?

Ami asked:

Well, im writing a paper on phishing && was wondering, if someone in a company or organization (or even a community) were to fill out somthing from a website using phishing (not sure if ‘phishing’ was worded right in the sentence ..) — would the whole company/organization/community be affected by it besides that one person who would? (If all the computers in the company/organization/community, were connected … ?)
Thanks in advance to everyone who answers!! :D
